I was on a job recently and came across an old newspaper whilst cleaning out the loft.
The newspaper was from 1964 so I thought I’d give it a quick read. Interestingly I came across an advert selling paint with the prices in shillings. Here’s a photo I took of the advert:
The most expensive item on the list was hard gloss paint which came in at 32 shillings a gallon. That works out to be just over £6 per litre in today’s money.
Whilst that seems very cheap, it’s worth mentioning that 32 shillings would’ve typically been the day wage for a skilled tradesman back in 1964.
